From Department of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources, it was renamed as Department of Environment and Natural Resources by virtue of Executive Order No. 192 under the Presidency of Corazon C. Aquino dated June 10, 1987. This Reorganization Act established the Department’s mandate and define the structures and functions/concerns of its various officers, staff bureaus, attached agencies and field officers consisting Regional, Provincial and Community Offices.

DENR Romblon by virtue also of the same Executive Order, was established by the merger of Bureau of Forestry and the Bureau of Land District Office. It was in 1979 when the Bureau of Forestry also known to be Bureau of Forest Development (BFD) constructed its building, now the PENR Office, at its present site in Brgy. Tabing Dagat, Odiongan, Romblon. The Bureau of Lands Building was constructed in the mid 70’s at a portion of the Old Barracks during the Japanese Regime of the Philippine Constabulary Compound at Brgy. Tabing Dagat and became the CENR Office during the merging.

As the Department celebrates 34th Anniversary, DENR PENRO Romblon with the leadership of PENR Officer Maximo C. Landrito is taking a stand to cope up with the ever-changing challenge on the environment.

Amidst the restrictions brought by covid-19 pandemic, PENRO Romblon personnel celebrates the 34th Anniversary with a simple activity following the minimum health standard.  As kick off activity, an opening program was held at PENR Office in the morning. During the program, participants of Environmental Quiz Bee from different sectors were introduced. Art Gallery featuring different flora and fauna of Mt. Guiting-Guiting Natural Park and CALSANAG Watershed Forest Reserve were also formally launch at the PENR Office.

After the program follows the first ever Environmental Quiz Bee of PENRO Romblon. There were 14 participants representing different sectors which all were eager to get the prize. The Quiz-Tions were categorized as Easy, Average and Difficult but at the end of the quiz bee, Ms. Jennifer R. Lucas got the title of 1st environmental Quiz Bee in PENRO Romblon.###

As part of the objectives of the Tayo ang Kalikasan (TAK) advocacy to build partnerships and mobilize the community in conserving and protecting the environment, DENR CENRO Socorro with the assistance of DENR PENRO Oriental Mindoro and Regional Office conducted a Lecture on Marine Turtle Conservation and Salient Features of R.A. 9147 or Wildlife Act via zoom last May 28, 2021in celebration of Month of the Ocean.

Part of the priority programs of the Tayo ang Kalikasan is to conduct activities that promotes clean air and clean water for our environment. In order to instill in the minds of the youth and develop their awareness on environmental concerns, the “Environment and Natural Resource (ENR) Ambassadors” were established based on the Restoration, Rehabilitation, and Development (PRRD) created under DENR Special Order No. 2017-974. Members of the youth-student sector were selected to take part in the mobilization of the community towards the conservation, protection and rehabilitation of natural resources.

To support this program, students and faculty members under the Bachelor of Science Environmental Science and BS Agriculture of Mindoro State University (MinSU) were invited to an online lecture on the Salient Features of Wildlife Act citing the different sections containing the protection of wildlife like marine turtles and illegal acts with corresponding penalties.

On May 27, 2021, the Tayo ang Kalikasan (TAK) Focal Persons from the Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG) conducted virtual orientation and lecture to ensure the implementation of the roles and responsibilities of the Tayo ang Kalikasan ENR Ambassadors of CENRO Taytay, Palawan.

The lecture tackles how the Tayo Ang Kalikasan was formed through collaborative efforts by the government and the citizens having shared responsibilities in conserving, maintaining and protecting the environment. The ENR Tayo ang Kalikasan Ambassador Project aims to involve students in the conservation and protection of the environment through Information, Education and Communication (IEC), advocacy and social mobilization.

The ENR TAK Ambassadors from Palawan State University – Taytay Campus shared the activities they have conducted since they have presumed their roles as environmental advocates. Some of the activities conducted were mountain clean up at Little Tagaytay, Sitio Mamaquen, Bgy. Poblacion, Taytay, Palawan with the support of Sta. Monica Parish Kids Ministry wherein ten (10) kilos of trash were collected. Training workshop in partnership with LGU Taytay, Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. and Municipal Environment Natural Resource Office (MENRO) Taytay. They also conducted tree planting wherein fifty (50) Indigenous Forest tree species were planted in watershed area in Municipal Campsite.

Designated Information Officer of CENRO Taytay, Rodel M. Dorado headed the formulation of Constitution and By-laws and the election of officers.

The lecture was participated by OIC-Chief RSCIG Consuelo Matundan, CENRO Alan Valle, designated Information Officer Rodel M. Dorado, faculty members of Palawan State University – Taytay Campus and Sangguniang Kabataan of different municipalities of Taytay, Palawan. ###

In expressing support to the celebration of Month of the Ocean 2021 with the theme “The Science we NEED, for the Ocean, we WANT,” DENR CENRO Sablayan conducted a kick-off through a motorcade activity held on May 10, 2021. The motorcade was headed by the assistance of PNP, a vehicle carrying a mascot of Napoleon Wrasse and a sound speaker and followed by a trail of DENR employees’ motorcycles. The route of activity was from CENR Office up to town proper, Brgy. Poblacion and vice versa. It was participated by thirty employees of CENRO Sablayan.

CENRO Sablayan likewise spearheaded a coastal clean-up activity on May 21, 2021. To avoid mass gathering and to ensure safety protocols, the participants were divided and grouped. The coastal clean-up was participated by 268 participants composed of the Local Government Unit, Brgy. Officials, different agencies, and concerned stakeholders united to work as one in cleaning the coastal areas of the Municipality of Sablayan. One hundred twelve sacks of debris were collected during clean-up, and such wastes were disposed to Sablayan dumpsite situated at Sablayan Eco-Park.

On May 26, 2021, and Information Education Communication (IEC) activity was conducted at Brgy. Claudio Salgado, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, wherein a comprehensive presentation regarding Biodiversity and Marine turtle Conservation and Biology was tackled to further increase the client’s awareness about the rules, regulations, policies, and other environmental concerns that the agency is implementing. The activity was attended by 21 participants.
