The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – MIMAROPA, through its CENRO Coron, and in collaboration with EMB - PEMU, gathered together 720+ volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to clean creeks and rivers in Coron, Palawan in support of the agency’s simultaneous cleanup drive to commemorate World Water Day, March 23. 

In a short activity before the cleanup, CENRO Coron also launched Pista 'Y Wae, an annual convergence of DENR, LGU, partner agencies and support groups to ensure continuity of cleanup efforts in the island. 

Volunteers from the public, private and business sectors, the academe, and NGOs pesent collected an estimate of 180 sacks of wastes from Manggahan Creek in Brgy. Tagumpay; Dipulao River in Brgy. Poblacion, and water bodies surrounding Brgys Poblacion 2, 3 and 5. 

Leading the cleanup activity were officials and staff from DENR MIMAROPA, namely Assistant Regional Director Maximo Landrito, Coron Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Rodney Verian, Chief of the License, Patents and Deeds Division Marilyn Limpiad, and Environmental Management Bureau (MIMAROPA) – Provincial Environment Management Unit (EMB – PEMU); the local government unit headed by Mayor Mario Reyes, Vice Mayor Asian Palanca, and Sangguniang Bayan member Michael Sadhwani.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard, PNP Maritime, Bureau of Fire Protection, Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Palawan State University, Calmanianes Resilience Network,  PCBSI, Bantay Gubat, Calamianes Motocross and Safety Riders Association, Fraternal of Eagles, members of the Calamianes Association of Tourism Establishments Inc. (CATE), resort and restaurant owners, recipients of 4Ps, and residents.
