Calapan City, August 4. In his meet and greet with the officials and employees of DENR Oriental Mindoro, Regional Executive Director Felix Mirasol, Jr., underscored the importance of being proactive in the way they perform their duties, especially now that MIMAROPA Region is confronted with numerous issues and challenges. He told them, “Focus on our targets and make sure they are delivered on time.
RED Mirasol also reminded the Oriental Mindoro team to strengthen collaborations with the LGU, and maximize the use of technology in monitoring systems, and digitalization of processes to deliver more effective and efficient public service.
 
“This is a very strong region, there is no reason that we cannot do better than where we are now,” he concluded.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources - MIMAROPA Region welcomes Director Felix S. Mirasol, Jr., as its new Regional Executive Director pursuant to DENR Special Order No. 2023-418 dated July 06, 2023.

In a brief turnover ceremony held at the Environmental Management Bureau - Central Office in Quezon City on July 19, 2023, RED Mirasol (right, below photo) received from outgoing RED Lormelyn E. Claudio the flag which symbolizes the transfer of leadership and management of the DENR MIMAROPA Region, which is composed of five island provinces, namely Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

RED Mirasol is a Forester by profession, and has been serving the Department for 35 years since he started as a forest guard in 1988. He rose from the ranks, became Protected Area Superintendent of Mount Kitanglad Range Natural Park, Community/Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Assistant Regional Director, until he assumed a full-fledged Director position in 2020. RED Mirasol is a Career Executive Service Officer with a rank of CESO IV.

Prior to his new assignment, RED Mirasol served as the Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services in DENR Region X. His dedication to work and commitment to deliver excellent public service are reflected in numerous awards he received, such as Most Outstanding PASU, Most Outstanding CENRO, and the Civil Service Commission – Region 10 PAG-ASA Award.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) MIMAROPA Region aims to raise public awareness on eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle as it leads the celebration of Month of the Ocean through cleanup activities in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

Anchored on the theme, "Sustainably Feed the Global Population," the cleanup activity on Brgy. Buenavista yielded a total of 48 sacks of collected wastes, gathered by 192 volunteers from Polytechnic University of the Philippines Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro State College, Philippine National Police – Sablayan, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Tau Gamma Phi/Sigma and holders of Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) in Sablayan.

Meanwhile in Brgy. San Vicente, a short environmental lecture on the no to single-use plastics advocacy of Tayo Ang Kalikasan (TAK) and facts on the celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity was held on May 24 organized by Information Officers Serna Urieta and Shyla Alah Abutan and thus attended by the students and teachers of the San Vicente National High School.

Tayo Ang Kalikasan Focal person and Information Officer Janice Belen stated that “The conservation and protection of our biodiversity must always be an urgent concern for people of all ages and in all walks of life. Protection of our environment should not always be a heavy burden as simple acts such as shifting our lifestyle and consumer choices can go a long way and change the lives of our future generation as well.”
