CENR Officer Efren L. Delos Reyes of San Jose during the assessment of  the nursery establishment at Sitio Bulangcog, Brgy. Iriron, on  November 24, 2021.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, and the Municipality of Calintaan have worked together to observe the  Environmental Awareness Month through the Task Force Cali-Kasan or Calintaan para sa Kalikasan. The Task Force Cali-Kasan was created to mobilize the people to conserve the mangrove areas and bring the DENR and LGU programs closer to them for  effective and efficient protection, conservation, rehabilitation, and management of the environment and natural environment  resources.

Since its establishment, various   activities have been conducted related to the environment, such  as the tree planting event during the National Arbor Day celebration, where 1000 seedlings have been planted; the establishment of the municipal nursery consisting of different species like narra, mahogany, Bitaog (Callophylum inuphyllum) wildlings and Kupang (Parkia javanica) and bamboo stock seedlings - these species were planted during the International Day of Forests. Tree planting activities aside, there have been various Information, Education, and Communication campaigns, coastal clean-up drives, and reef checks to ensure continuous environmental programs in Calintaan.

In an interview, CENR Officer Efren L. Delos Reyes mentioned that the traditional way of farming—kaingin, combined with poaching, had been the major threats to the forests and wildlife in the area. He added that the mangrove seedlings planted during world wetlands day were continuously monitored and sustained through enrichment planting. The condition of the planted propagules has been often monitored to improve the survivability rate.

“There is no boundary in time and space; the effect of climate change can be realized through our actions today and can be reflected through the future generations. We can only show our love for nature if we treat  it, protect and conserve it so that our loved ones will not  suffer from our wrongdoings today,” highlighted by CENRO Efren during his interview.###
