The Regional Public Affairs Office conducted an Environmental lecture and Tayo ang Kalikasan orientation to the students of Oriental Mindoro National High School in Calapan City as part of their preparation for their responsibilities in their homes, to the nation and the community.
The girl scouts were educated on proper handling of unmanageable waste, application of waste segregation, and waste reduction to combat the harmful effects of single-use plastics to the wildlife and the environment. The students were also told to study the Beginner’s guide to Zero-waste living topics to further broaden their knowledge as environmentalists. The students were taught to follow the 5 Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot to be applied in their homes, schools and their parent’s offices.
The head student of the GSP - Calapan, Oriental Mindoro also presented their activities for the environment protection. These include monthly school clean-up brigades, placement of uprooted plants, waste segregation, ornamental plantation, ecological projects, mangrove planting, cleaning and maintenance of drainage systems, herbal garden reconstruction, deep well restoration, and vegetable garden plantation.
In celebration of Zero Waste Month, pre-loved clothes donated by DENR officials and personnel were turned over to the Philippine Red Cross - Calapan Chapter to be distributed to those in need.
