DENR Civil Servants: Work before benefits!
by: Jhonna Liza S. Medenilla
As the rationalization phase continued on its third wave, newly appointed and promoted DENR personnel of the first and second wave were given opportunity to be well-informed about basic rights and privileges as a government employee. Thus, an orientation entitled “Orientation Program on Basic Employee Rights, Privileges and Benefits” was conducted last February 17, 2016 at Goodchow, Boac, Marinduque. Thirty four (34) newly appointed and fourteen (14) promoted personnel attended the program.
Civil Service Commission (CSC) Director Josephine R. Altura, the program resource speaker, gave emphasis on being a civil servant. She said that being a public servant is not about getting benefits but owning “a heart for serving people.”
Director Altura proceeded with her discussion on the Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS) guidelines. On the other hand, the speaker from PhilHealth, Social Insurance Assistant 1, Eduardo Roy C. Rosales, discussed the benefits of securing a PhilHealth account. After the discussion, he entertained questions on late refunds and double membership. Lastly, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Marinduque Branch Head, Ms. Eleonor Espina, tackled matters about GSIS policies, benefit, loans and pensions for retiring personnel. She also discussed the compensations of an employee in case of emergencies and other relevant matters.
After hours of meaningful discussion, the orientation was closed by OIC PENR Officer Redante D. Diwa who gave words of wisdom and expressed his hope that every bit of information acquired will be used by the newly appointed and promoted employees throughout and until their last day in government service.
