World Wetlands Day Celebration in DENR MIMAROPA

Anchored on the theme “Wetlands for our Future; Sustainable Livelihoods,” the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) MIMAROPA conducted several activities to celebrate World’s Wetlands Day (WWD) last February 2016.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Romblon, headed by their OIC- PENR Officer, Maximo C. Landrito, conducted Mangrove Planting at the Budiong Fish Sanctuary in Brgy. Budiong in Odiongan. The activity supports the National Greening Program (NGP)- Mangrove and Beach Forest Development Project, which is a priority program of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III. The participants also conducted clean up drive after planting one thousand (1000) mangrove seedlings in the area.
In PENRO Palawan, WWD was celebrated with a four-day Photo Exhibit featuring Palawan’s Wetlands last February 2-5, 2016 at the Robinson’s Place Palawan Activity Center. The exhibit was in collaboration with CENRO Puerto Princesa, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, and Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD).
The Naujan Lake Protected Area Office joined the celebration with an environmental activity at Naujan Lake last February 2, 2016 with the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) members, Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. (MBCFI), allbarangays within the Naujan Lake National Park (NLNP), and USAID B+WISER. The activities were participated by 250 delegates which included clean-up drive, bird watching, distribution of information materials, interaction with the community, and delivering inspirational messages for the conservation and protection of Naujan Lake National Park.
