DENR MIMAROPA joins Environment Month Celebration
The month of June marks the celebration of World Environment Day (June 5) and Philippine Environment Month. With focus on the well-being of humanity, environment, and balanced economic and ecological growth, this year’s theme—“Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." - upholds responsible management of the planet’s Natural resources. On June 10, 2015, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources MIMAROPA employees gathered and actively participated in the activities for the 28th Founding anniversary of the agency at the DENR-Central Office, Visayas Ave., Quezon City.
DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje mentions in his message that the DENR’s environmental protection efforts have been successful through the years and this was mainly due to its dedicated workers. He congratulated all the employees of DENR for the worthy performance and accomplishments under the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
DENR MIMAROPA employees celebrated the Environment Month through a team-building workshop followed by a tree-planting activity held at Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro last June 18-19, 2015. The said activity supports continuous development, camaraderie, cooperation and leadership enhancement of the agency’s personnel. It was made possible through the joint efforts of the region's Employees Union (DENREU MIMAROPA) and Regional Public Affairs Office in cooperation with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Oriental Mindoro under the leadership of PENR Officer Mary June F. Maypa.
The participants were welcomed by Puerto Galera Mayor Hubbert Christopher Dolor after the opening remarks done by PENRO Mary June F. Maypa. Mayor Dolor greeted everyone energetically with "Malaparaisong Dalampasigan At Mamamayang Disiplinado Araw" and shared some environmental protection measures they are doing in the town like ban on illegal logging, the use of plastics and smoking in public places.
Around two hundred (200) personnel from different divisions and sections of the agency participated in the activities—from the rank and file employees to supervisory and managerial officers. The employees were divided into four teams namely: yellow, blue, red and green for the team building activities. In his message, Regional Director Oscar C. Dominguez said that the purpose of the activity was to bring DENR MIMAROPA employees together to learn about team dynamics through collaborative group exercises.
On the first day, four (4) group dynamics activities were carried-out – the Groupie Contest, cheering competition, poster making contest and relay games. These activities were held and seek to facilitate the personnel’s acknowledgment of their respective individuality, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they can contribute to the development of one another.
The Red Team emerged as 1st place for have won most of the relay games; followed by the Blue Team in 2nd place who also won the groupie, cheering, and poster making competition; Green Team as the 3rd place winner and Yellow Team as the 4th placer.
The second day was allotted for the tree planting activity which was held at Brgy. San Teodoro, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro. The activity served as reminder for all of the employees to take a continuous positive action and to provide personal contribution in creating better and greener world.
At the end of the day, all teams did an amazing job with enthusiastic participation, collaboration and teamwork. DENR MIMAROPA employees, through this learning event, has managed to enhance inter-personal skills together with advocating environmental awareness, that will beneficially help our organization to function effectively towards the achievement and fulfillment of our mandate to environmental conservation and protection.
