DENR MIMAROPA holds the First-Ever Mutya ng Kalikasan 2015
As part of the culmination of the month-long celebration of Environment Month, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources MIMAROPA held its first-ever Mutya ng Kalikasan 2015 Pageant.
Eleven (11) beautiful candidates coming from the different offices across the region joined the pageant last July 18, 2015 at the Marinduque Convention Center, Boac, Marinduque. Regional Office was represented by Ms. Edzen Marie Trambulo of Management Services and Ms. Sabriza Lucidos of Technical Services. From the Province of Oriental Mindoro, Ms. Charity D. Aguila represented PENRO Calapan and Ms. Josephine Lovella Malijan of CENRO Roxas. Occidental Mindoro's representatives were Ms. Dona Carissa U. Alvarez of PENRO Mamburao, Kathleen Jane Lugtu of CENRO San Jose, and Kathleen Pascual of CENRO Sablayan. Candidates from Palawan were Ms. Sherly C. Bacan of PENRO Palawan and Ms. Donna C. Cocjen of CENRO Taytay. PENRO Romblon's candidate was Ms. Iloisa Amor Mingoa and from the host province, PENRO Marinduque was Ms. Jhonna Liza Medenilla.
One of the primary goals of the pageant is to project a vibrant and dynamic DENR MIMAROPA Region by creating a core of intelligent, youthful and presentable DENR personnel who will serve as the face of the Department in promoting public awareness in the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of ENR resources.
The candidates were judged based on intelligence, personality and talent. The candidates also competed for the special awards namely: best in talent, best in swimwear, best in creative gown and most photogenic. The talents showcased by the contestants were directly linked to the environment manifested through interpretative dance, ethnic dance, and theatrical song and dance number. In the creative gown category, the contestant’s attire were made entirely of recycled waste materials and native plants.
Ms. Sabriza Lucidos of Regional Office - Technical Services was crowned as the Mutya ng Kalikasan 2015 likewise bagged the Best in Swimwear. CENRO San Jose's candidate, Ms. Kathleen Jane R. Lugtu was adjudged 1st Runner up and best in creative gown made of dried corn husk. 2nd Runner up and people's choice award went to Ms. Jhonna Liza Medenilla of PENRO Marinduque; 3rd Runner up and most photogenic award was given to Ms. Josephine Lovella Malijan of CENRO Roxas, Oriental Mindoro and awarded as 4th Runner up and best in talent was Ms. Dona Carissa U. Alvarez of PENRO Occidental Mindoro.
Among this year’s judges were Retired Forester and Former PENRO of Romblon, For. Benjamin Jovinal; Dr. Aquina Rivas, owner of Eastpoint Hotel, Marinduque; Former Ms. Marinduque Lina Kawanoue; Marinduque's Provincial Tourism Officer Dindo Asuncion; PENRO of Quezon, For. Alfredo Placencia and DENR MIMAROPA's Regional Director, Oscar C. Dominguez.
The Mutya ng Kalikasan participants will be trained to serve as their respective offices youth desk officers, protocol officers, and NGO/ CSO desk officers.
Apart from the pageant, DENR MIMAROPA Region under the leadership of RD Oscar C. Dominguez took the chance to thank and recognize the invaluable work given by the two retiring officials in public service particularly in DENR MIMAROPA, PENRO Benjamin Jovinal of Romblon and PENRO Atty. Nicasio Rino of Marinduque.
