Tagging and Releasing of One Head Green Turtle at
San Rafael, Puerto Princesa City

 

tagging-releasing 100 green turtle-1On February 16, 2015 at around 6:30AM, one (1) head turtle was found trapped in the floating cultivation lines of a seaweed plantation (26 m x 100 m) owned by Mr. Rogelio Paclibar of Purok Maligaya, Barangay San Rafael, Puerto Princesa City. Mr. Paclibar is a fish warden, BFARMC Chairman and caretaker of Nagbandera and Dawawow Sanctuaries located in the said Barangay. Mr. Paclibar rescued the turtle and reported the incident to Kgd. Roland Macola – SB San Rafael which was then reported to Hon. City Councilor Roy Ventura, the City ENRO and Bantay Dagat. The City ENRO/Bantay Dagat requested assistance from this Office for the conduct of measurement, tagging and releasing activities.

Soriano of DENR PENRO PAWCZMS proceeded to the area together with Mr. David Mark Dela Rosa, Chief of Bantay Dagat/Bakawan Task Force of the City Government and his staff Mr. Luisito Garcia – Operations Officer for Land Base to conduct tagging and releasing of the turtle.

The said turtle was identified as an adult female Green turtle which measures 96 cm in curve carapace length and 91 cm in curve carapace width and was tagged on its left flipper with serial number PH0792J. It has an approximate weight of 150 kilos. The tagging and releasing activities were assisted/witnessed by the following: Kgd. Diego Belviatura, Kgd. Donald Bacani, Kgd. Ramon Solina, Kgd. Redentor Cosa and Mrs. Adelina Paclibar. The activity was also documented by ABS CBN TV Patrol Palawan. (Ma. Vivian O. Soriano)
